This cutting-edge scrum machine is designed to redefine the way rugby teams train, offering an unmatched tool for coaches and players to perfect their scrum techniques and strategies.

Get your technique right

What is a Smart Scrum machine?

The Smart Scrum is a scrum-simulation machine built to replicate the resistance and unpredictability of a live opposition pack, not just add weight. A floating system of live cushions and variable springs lets the machine move and give the way a real scrum does under pressure, so a team trains against something closer to game conditions than a fixed sled or wall-mounted unit ever can.

Where the Counter Scrum is built to isolate and correct one athlete's technique, the Smart Scrum is built for the group — full-pack sessions where the coaching goal is match realism: reading pressure, adjusting on the move, and reacting as a unit the way they'll have to on Saturday.

Resistance is adjustable, so a session can be tuned to simulate different opposition scenarios — a heavier, slower-moving pack or a lighter, more mobile one — rather than training against the same fixed load every week.

"This machine will give coaches the edge to train their players for all different scenarios and situations"

Advanced resistance control

Built to react like an opponent, not just resist like a machine.

Most scrum training equipment gives you one setting: how much weight to push against. The Smart Scrum's floating cushion system and variable springs mean the resistance isn't fixed — it moves, gives, and pushes back in a way closer to a real scrum than a sled ever can, so your pack is training the actual skill of a scrum, not just the strength of one.

Advanced resistance control lets a coach dial in different match scenarios — heavier and slower, lighter and more mobile — so a session can be built around what you'll actually face on Saturday, not a single generic load.

The floating design also changes what a coach can see. Working from inside or alongside the machine gives a closer view of player reactions and adaptations under pressure than standing behind a fixed sled ever allows — useful for spotting who holds shape and who doesn't when the pressure isn't predictable.

Match your school or squad colours

Colours and branding, built in from the start.

The Smart Scrum ships in red, blue, green, grey, black or yellow, each with contrasting text, and can carry your team's logo on the side panels, so it's not just training equipment, it's equipment that looks like it belongs to your programme. For unions, schools and clubs kitting out a facility, that matters as much as the engineering underneath it.

Every Smart Scrum is designed and built in-house, to the same standard as the rest of the range — heavier-gauge steel than imported equipment, engineered and checked before it leaves the workshop, not welded together on a guess.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the Smart Scrum and the Counter Scrum?

The Counter Scrum trains one athlete at a time on technique — it resists bad form specifically and is used to coach and identify props. The Smart Scrum is built for full-pack sessions, using a floating cushion system to simulate the resistance and unpredictability of a live opposition scrum. Most high-performance programmes use both, for different parts of a session.

How many players can train on the Smart Scrum at once?

Up to a full pack of 8.

Can it be customised with our team's colours and logo?

Yes. The Smart Scrum is available in red, blue, green, grey, black or yellow, each with contrasting text, and your team's logo can be applied to the side panels.

Is the Smart Scrum only for professional teams?

No, it's built for high-performance programmes of schools, clubs and squads of all levels from high-school upwards.

What's the warranty on the Counter Scrum?

Same as everything we build: manufacturing defects are repaired or replaced, and equipment that's been abused is repaired as cost-efficiently as possible rather than refused. See Warranty for the full policy.
